How I found my kid have painting talent

Painting is an art which is used to express personal ideas and creativity. The best artistic painters do not force their painting skills but majority of them are born with the talent of painting. Just as many great artistic painters have narrated their stories on how they started their painting career, my kid, James, was not exempted. He started showing his painting skills at a very tender age that even got me amazed. I am not an artistic painter myself but I was able to notice that my kid had the painting skills. Obviously he did not inherit his painting talent from me, his father.

I was a primary school teacher and when my son was three years old, his talent in painting was visible in the eyes of everybody who was near him. First, he loved nature and whenever he spotted any spectacular scene, he would try to draw it in the dust. This caught me by surprise because nobody in my family was an artistic painter. My wife was a nurse and did not have time to either identify or nurture my child’s talent.

When James attained the age of six years, he was enrolled in kindergarten school in our neighborhood. This was the greatest opener for his talent; he now had books and pens to draw all he wanted. I would purchase books on weekly basis because he would draw and paint pictures every time he had free time. His teacher also identified his passion in art and did not restrict him from doing what he loved most – painting.

At the age of eight years when James was in standard two, I was surprised on my birthday. Two weeks earlier, they had had a class tour to a game park. On that evening of my birthday, we had supper as a family, as usual. After the dinner, at around 9:00 p.m. James went to his bedroom and came back with a picture in his hands which he extended to me and said, “Dad, here is your birthday present”. I was astonished and could not believe what I saw. He had artistically drawn and painted a picture of a monkey standing on a tree, peeling a ripe banana! What a scene, what a picture! It was a spectacular picture that nobody could have imagined that it had been drawn and painted by a standard two kid. Everybody in the family was mesmerized and happy with James’ painting.

That very month, they had the school’s culture week and James painted the same picture which he showcased on the D-day of the event. His painting became the most outstanding in the arts section beating all paintings that had been done by the other students. Believe it or not, his painting was purchased at a price of $150. It was from that very day that I purchased a full set of painting materials for my kid. He became famous as an artistic painter in the whole school and region and after his high school; he joined college and studied artistic painting. He was able to pay his college fees through his artistic paintings talent because he had signed several artistic painting studios that paid for his services.

My kid made me understand that talent is always in-born and nobody can hide it. At a tender age of eight years, James surprised me with a remarkable painting that made me realize that in deed he had a painting talent. From that day, I supported him fully in nurturing his talent which has enabled his earn a living until today. Currently, he has his own artistic painting studio where he is also nurturing painting talents for many young people.
